Okay, I’m kidding. Spending time with family is the best part of holidays. Right? PST..the correct answer is YES. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t sip tasty libations while in good company.
While prepping for Thanksgiving dinner last night making, I was making a pumpkin pie and simple syrup (to make classic Old Fashioned Cocktails). Then it struck me — why not make pumpkin spice simple syrup and create a festive Thanksgiving Day cocktail.
Pumpkin Spice Whiskey Spritzer
Ingredients
Cocktail
- 2 oz Whiskey
- 1 oz pumpin spice simple syrup
- 2-3 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 3 oz club soda
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 orange peel
- 6-8 cubes of ice
Simple Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
Instructions
Simple Syrup

In a small pot, combine all simple syrup ingredients. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 10 minutes.

Let cool and then strain into a sealable container.

If you skip straining its okay, the syrup will be cloudy. Shake before using.
Cocktail

In a cocktail shaker with ice shake whiskey, simple syrup, and bitters.

In a cocktail glass filled with ice, pour cocktail shaker mixture.

Top with club soda and garnish with orange rind and cinnamon stick.

The simple syrup is super easy to make and when stored in a sealed container, can be stored for up to 4 weeks in the refrigerator. It can also be added coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
