Cotton Candy, Turkey Legs, Corn on the Cob and Snow Cones are four iconic fair foods from my childhood. Every year growing up, my sister would take me to the Ashland County Fair in Wisconsin where we would play games (I once won a gold fish…great day!), ride the rides (except for the circle of puke), and eat delicious fair food. I always looked forward to have the really BIG grilled turkey legs. That BIG OLE Caveman turkey leg slow cooked over an open fire drenched in BBQ sauce was heavenly. They were tender and delicious albeit slightly messy.
I’ve never been able to recreate those county fair turkey legs; they are always missing something, that dash of childhood perhaps? I have, however, been able to make one heck of an oven roasted turkey leg perfect for summer. Roasted Citrus Turkey Legs hit the spot when your craving a hearty meat dish but still want that summer flavor. The turkey citrusy, tender and juicy.
Enjoy!
