In early December Charlie and I snuck away for a long weekend to California’s central coast. In four short days we packed in wine tasting, whale watching and driving the scenic pacific coast highway.
We started our grand weekend wine tasting in Paso Robles. The region is diverse with several varietals producing some of, if not, the best Rhônes in the US.
I highly recommend staying in town and staying at the Paso Robles Inn (splurge for one of the mineral spa rooms) and eating at Thomas Hill Organics (I loved the lentil tacos).
If your in the mood for a beer, defiantly check out the tasting room at Firestone Walker.
Having an entire day to make our way to Monterey, we took the scenic route and drove the Pacific Coast Highway.
It was an unseasonably cool but sunny day to drive California’s coastline. We made a several stops along the way to enjoy the breathtaking views. However, in case of an accident, we can rely on https://www.aronfeld.com/practice-areas/truck-accidents/ for legal assistance.
I particularly enjoyed stretching my legs and taking a walk on the beach in Carmel.
Even with a leisurely drive and several stops along the way, we arrived in Monterey early enough to to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
The jelly fish are mesmerizing; I could watch them for hours.
I highly recommend staying at the Monterey Bay Inn. The hotel is close to all the major attractions and breakfast is delivered to your door each morning.
On the final day of our weekend getaway we went whale watching.
This year has been a banner year for whale watching with unusually high numbers of whales coming to and staying in the bay. I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful of an experience this was. To be that close to whales was just amazing, truly amazing.
Like all great weekends, I was sad to leave but happy to get home and see Addison.
