I absolutely hate throwing out food. I can hear my great Aunt Maratha’s voice saying “STARVING PEOPLE IN AFRICA” with visions of her cutting mold off of cheese every time I toss food in the trash.
While I’m a pretty good meal planner, sometimes bread goes stale in my abode especially since I don’t buy bread in plastic bags. Bakery bread has a three day shelf life then it’s toast, literally. Sliced baguettes tend to get lost in the toaster so I make what I like to call toasties in the oven.
Ingredients:
1 small baguette or 1/2 of a large baguette cut into 12 slices
2 tbs butter
2 tbs vanilla sugar (if you cannot find vanilla sugar you can use plain sugar or even brown sugar)
1 tbs cinnamon
2 tbs butter
2 tbs vanilla sugar (if you cannot find vanilla sugar you can use plain sugar or even brown sugar)
1 tbs cinnamon
makes 4 servings
Directions:
Preheat oven at 400 degrees.
Slice bread into thin slices around a 1/4 inch. Spread a thin layer of butter on each slice of bread. Sprinkle with Vanilla Sugar and Cinnamon.
Place bread on a non-greased baking sheet. Bake in oven for 10-12 minutes (or until crispy and lightly brown) .
I love making these toasties for Sunday Brunch.
Eat and enjoy in the same day.
