When I was a kid I wanted to play the French horn. My mom made me decide between music lessons and horseback ridding lessons. I chose horses and the only formal musical training that I ever received was playing the recorder and xylophone in music class which quickly ended in 8th grade. My sister played the organ so I did also dabbled in some self taught learning of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. While I never became the next Pietro Amato, I have always had a great appreciation for music. I try to see live music, what ever it is, whenever I can.
Music can make me happy, it can calm me down, it can put me to sleep and it can inspire me to get moving.
I like to think that I have a pretty diverse taste in music. The only music that I really don’t enjoy entirely is Death Metal. Granted I’m not a huge listener of Punk and I have a selective taste for Rap but beyond those, I can pretty much listen to anything. EVEN COUNTRY.
I think it is fun to explore music from other counties….well beyond Gangnam Style. Have you ever listed to Burundi Drummers? What is more impressive is to watch them. The relaxing music of Keiko Matsui can be intoxicating. And, Spanish guitar music can be invigorating.
I clearly have my favorites which are rock and pop. Sign me up for a Black Keys concert any day of the week, Yes Please.
I can’t imagine my life without music. I’m not a musician but I do appreciate it and admire those those who are talented.
