The past two weekend I have run 5Ks…both of them being my worst times in 3 years. In a nutshell after about a mile my heel has been killing me. Yesterday after my 5K I could hardly walk. So, I made an appointment today to see a doctor.
I’m pretty sure its a heel spur. All I know is that when wearing high heels feels better than flip flops something is just wrong.
I ran the Buckingham Fountain Foundation 5K two weeks ago. Its was a really nice race, not crowded, nice course with a start and finish at the fountain. After about a mile I ended up doing a walk run. My heel started to hurt and I figured why push myself, its not a chipped race. Bad Move, I got in with a bunch of Garrison Runners (ie: run walkers with an annoying whistle). I gave up trying to pass them so for 2 miles every 2 minutes I heard *whistle* RUN, then *whistle* STOP.
This past week I ran the Race for the Zoo. I did it last year and never saw any of the animals because I was in a pack of people. This year I was conciseness to look for the animals. It was still overly crowded and I had to start to walk at mile 1.5 but it was fun. The only annoying thing was they had water at mile 1. I like water at mile 1.5 or mile 2. I was also a tad hungover from a pub race for breast cancer the day before. So ideally water at mile 1 and 2 would have been awesome. (I think this was my beef with the race last year too)
Regardless of my heel I did not sissy out. I just hope its nothing serious. I’m hoping I can get doped up on Cortisone and start/resume my 1/2 training. More than likely my August 1/2 will be a 10 mile training run (as long as nothing is wrong with my foot).
I don’t have any pics from the races but I do have picture of my yummy dinner from tonight. It was really good..so I thought I’d share.
It was basically a bunch of leftover veggies. I had leftover mushrooms, peppers, carrots. I cut them up and stir fried then with 3 green onions and brick of tofu. I added 3 cloves of crushed garlic, rice wine vinegar, fish sauce, tsp of salt and some soy sauce. Stir fried in sesame oil. I then tossed in some snap peas and 1 cup of roughly chooped cilantro (from my blacony garden). I put this over brown rice with some sesame seeds and hot sauce.
As for my food finds of the week, I have 2.
1. Brown Cow Yogurt (visit the site, the cow talks). The Creamy Coffee is good. I don’t know what it is but it had a “I want to keep eating” it flavor. Their yogurt is all natural, gluten free. There is a little cap of cream on top that tastes really good when mixed in the yogurt. Its not thick like Greek Yogurt, but ticker than wallaby yogurt which I also like.
2. Mediteranian Chicken Bugers. I had some of my Junior League friends over last week and wanted grill out. I decided to make mini burger and one out of chicken (for those who don’t eat beef). They were so good. My recipe (I made this up myself) and didn’t measure so I’m estimating..
1.5 lbs ground chicken thighs
2-3 oz crumbled feta
1/2 cup dill (from my balcony garden..use fresh) chopped
1 clove garlic crushed
salt
pepper
mix all together, form into pattys..grill till cooked though
I served them with the following sauce:
1 cup greek yougrt
2 tbs dill
2 tbs oregano
salt to taste
