I completed my first run on my training schedule and…..it wasn’t too bad. I did 20 min x 2 and eeked out 3 miles in about 40 mins. I didn’t push it at all. In fact, I held back on the second 20 mins. I’ve retained my cardio fitness, my legs were a little tight after the run but all in all not to shabby. I felt like I could have ran about 10 more 20 min sets. Okay maybe not 20, but at least 3 or 4 more.
On another topic..I’m never getting a flu shot again. Two weeks ago, 14 days to the day I got one. Essentially when you get a flu shot it takes 2 weeks after the vaccination for antibodies that provide protection against influenza virus infection to develop in the body. Or, if you read the fine print, in two weeks you will get sick. Well I’m getting sick. Just when I want abandon the training plan and bust out a 5 mile run the balmy Chicago weather before it turn 30 degrees and starts to snow.
Oh well, tomorrow I’ll pick up my plan and do another 20×2 on the track at the gym.

Now that just sucks about getting sick from the flu shot… sorry. I got one at work last year for the first time and I ended up coming down with the most evil flu myself, so maybe it is good that I missed flu shot day at work this year because I have no time off to spare.
Congrats on getting three miles in on your first big training run after your injury.!

Congrats on getting back to running!
I’ve never gotten a flu shot and I don’t plan to. I rarely get sick anyhow, I’d rather not get sick on purpose!
