This past week I ran Pumpkins in the Park. It was an awesome race for three reasons and my time and the course were not one of them. Before I divulge the greatness of the race let me bitch a little bit about it first.
Complaint # 1 – its October how about a LONG SLEEVE Race Shirt. While I appreciate the cheap dri-wic t-shirt, it’s October and I need some new winter running garments.
Complaint #2 – Pizza who the hell wants to eat greasy pizza after running 3 miles? Not to mention it was not even good pizza.
Complaint #3 – Smokers on the course, MOVE THE HELL AWAY. I don’t smoke cancer sticks anymore, and I surely don’t want to inhale a big ole breath of smoke while sucking wind at mile 2!!!!
Complaint #4 – Bare Naked Granola..can they stop giving this stuff out. It is gross, it does not taste good, I try it every time thinking it’s going to be different and it is not. It’s just a big waste of points.
Complaint #5 – Why only one beer?
Complaint #6 – Making 2 lanes of traffic run on one lane with baby strollers is not safe. Really, can people with strollers find a sitter? Maybe it’s my lack of spawn but it drives me nutz when then get in the way and even more pissed when they pass me
Complaint #7- Okay I’m really out of complaints but seven is such and odd number to stop
Now on to the good stuff.
Greatness Reason #1 – As you might have read I belong to Weight Watcher and have met some really wonderful woman who lives all over the country on the running thread. There are a lot of Chicago runners on the daily thread and we decided to all meet and run a 5K together. It ends up that we are doing two and Pumpkins in the Park was our first race together. It was great, I got to meet two new people.
Greatness Reason #2 – 65-degree weather. Running in the fall just rocks. Not feeling like your going to pass out from the blistering sun and losing 6# in the heat after a 20 min run ROCKS!!!
Great Reason #3- All I have to say is doing any sort of exercise is sooooooooooooooooooooo much better when you have a partner. My friend Amy (I call her a friend because I have been inebriated with her more than once) and I ran the race together. She was great motivation to keep going..staring at here svelte 123 lbs booty made me keep on going. LOL..Okay, I really didn’t stare, but I may have looked (a lot). In all honesty, I think we motivated each other. Of course, she smoked my ass at the finish line. I ended up with a time of 39:17 12:39 (she finished 38:59 12:33 ).
Here is a pick of Amy and me at the race.
It was a total blast..next race is in 2 weeks.

It’s so great that you got to run with the Chi town girls. And I just got done reading your post about the swag. The next race I run, we’ll after the run for hunger, will be able the swag!

Love it! I have to agree on all counts. (Though, the sub-par pizza quality didn’t stop me from knocking back two slices. I need a pizza twelve step program.)
Can’t wait to see you again at the next one! If Bear Naked is there, we should egg the tent. After all, it is Halloween, and they are giving out the crappy stuff.

Delane,
I am 124.8 lbs. I haven’t made goal yet!!!! 😉
Whatever, I think you look good and I agree on complaint #7 and Good Things number #3. I would have starting walking after 10 feet but I didn’t cause I didn’t want to be a woos in front of everyone.
Looking forward to the next run!
Delane says
I stand corrected amy is 124.8…LOL
I think 3 days of Bikram will have you at goal!
Tammy says
Sounds like a great time was had by all…
I’ll have to plan my next trip to Chicago around a race so I can meet all the cool Chicago running peeps!
