When I was in Asheville, NC last year I had the most amazing old fashioned cocktail at The Double Crown made with apple butter. And ever since that trip I have been talking about that cocktail and how amazing it was. Oddly, I never made it at home. Well, I put that to an end last weekend.
Last Saturday I went to the Green City Market garage sale. If your in Chicago and like cookware go next year. I was first in line and scored two dozen bespoke NEW Frette napkins made for Naha and Spiagga. At $1 a each they were a steal. In addition to bargain linens, I also bought a jar of applewood smoked apple butter from the bake sale. I quickly made plans for that jar of apple butter including it making friends with a pork loin this weekend. But plans be damned, that didn’t stop me from opening it first thing when I got home. Upon tasting it I thought to myself “I really need to make that apple butter old fashioned with this.” And so be it, after some housework I found myself sipping a cocktail and enjoying a sunny fall day.
Sometimes, you just have to live a little.
