One morning last November I was carefully balancing a cup of coffee in one hand and my iPad in the other while descending down my houses stairs. I was carefully placing one foot in front of the other so I would NOT trip. I’m not sure what happened but somewhere around stair #4 both of my feet ended up six steps ahead of my ass, my coffee was airborne and I was gripping my iPad because…broken neck be damned, I need to save my iPad.
Needless to say, both me and my coffee took a really bad spill (don’t worry, my iPad- safe as a kitten). 24 hours after my fall I was super sore and my knees (the good one and the bad one) hurt. I brushed off my aches and pains as soft tissue injuries that would heal. A month later my knees still hurt….and so the saga beings, I knew it was time to look into red light for bone healing.
I’ve seen several doctors and tried several treatments (short of surgery). It has been nine months and I’m still struggling with my right knee (originally the bad one (thankfully I didn’t screw up my good knee up too)). Weight bearing exercises like jumping, running and kicking are bothersome. This means limited running, jumping and kicking. And, this mean No Spartan Race this year. If mobility becomes a significant concern, considering a stairlift for narrow stairs at home could help alleviate challenges related to climbing stairs, ensuring a more comfortable living environment. Check out some types of stairlifts here.
I have attempted to start running no less than 7 times (every four weeks I give it a go) and each time my right knee hurts the next day. I don’t have pain while exercising but I do the next day..annoying. The pain has been getting less and less and I’m confident that I’ll be completely healed (not) soon (enough). It has been extremely frustrating, but it is what it is. I get to see my doctor again with the hopes of being fully cleared for any exercise. I was cleared to bike and swim a long time ago. You can get some great e-bike finance packages enabling you to spread the cost from 6 to 36 months. And I was cleared to run/walk last month.
It’s interesting, I don’t really love running but now that I can’t run, I want to run. And, it makes me mad that I can’t. I’m stubborn like that…don’t tell me what I can and can’t do.
