Without the sweater this dress does not work for work. Its a bit to dressy. Plus it has spaghetti straps which are not acceptable (in my book) to wear in the office without a sweater or jacket over them. The fabric is a light chiffon silk which is really beautiful up close, but makes garment a bit more formal than a cotton or a knit fabric. With the sweater, it works. Though I am a bit on the dressed up today compared to most other people in the office. I work for a company that is business casual and most people tend to fall in the cotton and cargo’s side business casual.
If I were to convert the dress to evening, I’d just take off the sweater. I could wear it as is.
Or I could reposition the scarf belt.

I prefer without the cardi – but I totally agree with you on covering up a little for work….
