San Diego

A few weeks ago  Charlie and I ran off to San Diego for a short weekend get away. When I say short, I mean sort.  We were delayed by 6 hours flying out on Friday (this was my second hydraulic plane issue this year, they are never easy to repair and always cause LONG delays).  But, we made the most of our time there.

Our first night we met up with friends at Pizza Port.   We had some tasty pizza and beer.  One of my favorite parts of traveling is visiting with friends who I don’t see often.

We woke up Saturday early so that we could head to the San Diego zoo.

Mission…see the baby Panda.  Unfortunately, the Panda is still inside. 

But we were able to see Yun Zi

And we saw a few other animals too.

I even got a little love from a llama.

After a morning at the zoo, we headed to my favorite fish taco place on the planet,  Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill.

I have yet to have better fish tacos than the ones at Blue Water.  If you know of a place let me know!

The rest of the afternoon we spent sipping beer at a few breweries.  We started our adventure at Stone where we enjoyed our beers in their garden. I had the Levitation.

After Stone we headed to Ale Smith.

Charlie and I split a tasting.  My favorite was the Evil Dead Red. 

We then headed to Hess and Charlie and I split a tasting.  My favorite was a the Ficus Farmhouse Saison.  This was a really small brewery (I’m talking a room, in an industrial park, with a standing room only bar). 

After Hess, we head to Societe.  They just opened their tap room which was a really nice space.  We split a sampler.  All of the beers were big or hoppy with  bitter finishes.  Not my style.

The last stop of the afternoon was Monkey Paw Pub and Brewery.  We again split a sampler.  I liked their Sweet Georgia Brown.

That night we met up with some friends for dinner and guess what?  MORE BEER.

The next morning Charlie and I woke up and headed to brunch.  I wanted to go to Hash House a Go Go but the wait was over an hour (I’m glad too because I just realized one has opened in Chicago).  So we headed to R-Gang Eatery.  We spit an order of their World Famous Tater Tots.  

I had the Roasted Corn Cake — Roasted polenta cake in a light creamy sauce of corn, mushrooms, onions, and garlic, on a bed of arugula. It was served with two eggs. I love polenta and I love mushrooms.  It was really really good.

After  breakfast we headed up to Cabrillo National Monument. 

The views of the city are spectacular.

And the tide pools are not to shabby either.

Our trip was really quick.  But we enjoyed every minute that we had there.
